Homework Policy

In first grade homework is typically limited to Reading, Spelling, and Bible. However if classwork is not completed by the end of the day, it must be completed at home for homework. Also, if a child chooses incorrect classroom behavior and fails to complete assigned work during class, these pages may also be sent home for completion and must be returned the next school day.

In Reading, students will be assigned pages to read on Monday, Tuesday, and occasionally on Thursday. Homework Sheets must be signed to indicate that the students have read the material. There may be an occasional homework quiz given in class to test on comprehension.

In Spelling, a new list of words is assigned every Thursday. Students will practice the words in class on Thursday, Friday, Monday, and Tuesday however, the parent(s) and student may decide upon their own method for studying words at home to better prepare for weekly tests. A pre-test is given on Tuesdays. Spelling tests are given on Wednesdays. If a test is missed on Wednesday, due to an absence or snow day, it will be given the next day students are in school.

In Bible, a new bible verse is given for the student to put to memory every Monday. The bible verse will be reviewed every day in class and placed on the board. The Bible test will be given on Friday of that week.

In the event a student fails to return his or her homework to school the following measures may be taken:

1. Complete the assignment during recess

2. Complete the assignment during an extracurricular class

3. Complete the assignment in class, but with additional work given (Example: write spelling words two times instead of one)

4. A parent/teacher conference

5. After school detention (extreme circumstance)
